In short
- No analytics, no tracking and no cookies.
- No accounts: you never give Zipdress your name, email or anything else.
- This site's server keeps no access logs.
- The map library and the fonts are served by this site, not by third-party CDNs.
What stays in your browser
Zipdress uses your browser's local storage, which never leaves your device, for two things:
zipdress-geo: the times of your address lookups in the last hour, to keep each visitor within a fair share of the geocoding quota.zipdress-city-sort: how you sorted the list of cities (largest first or A–Z).
You can clear both at any time in your browser's site settings.
What is sent, and to whom
- Address lookup. When you click the map, press the locate button or search for a ZIP code or an address, the coordinates or the search text can go to this site's own geocoding service (for a click, only when this site's own address data has no answer). It asks Geoapify for the address on the site's behalf and does not pass your IP address on to Geoapify.
- Address data. Around a clicked point, your browser loads small files of OpenStreetMap addresses from this site's server. They are the same for every visitor.
- Fallback geocoder. When the geocoding service can't answer or your hourly share is used up, your browser asks Nominatim at nominatim.openstreetmap.org directly. The OpenStreetMap Foundation runs it and sees your IP address and the coordinates or search text (OSMF privacy policy).
- Nearest house number. When a clicked spot has a street but no number and this site's address data can't be loaded, your browser asks the public Overpass API (overpass-api.de) directly, which sees your IP address and the coordinates.
- Map tiles. The map images come from tile.openstreetmap.org, run by the OpenStreetMap Foundation, which sees your IP address and the part of the map you view.
Your location
Zipdress asks for your location only when you press the locate button, and your browser asks for your permission first. The position is used in your browser to move the map; the address of that point is then looked up like a click on the map, as described above. It is not stored.
Advertising
There are no ads on Zipdress now. Ads may be added later; this policy will be updated before that happens, to say which ad network is used and what it collects.
